So, What’s Your Linking Strategy Kimo’sabe?

OK you’ve got your money sites in place, Tonto old friend,  and they’re (at last) indexed in MSN – hopefully in Google too!

Your blog network is set up too, automated content has kicked in and your LinkuBaiter script’s code is installed in them all ( both the one in the sidebar and the footer right?). OK, now’s the time to get to work…

A flash of white, a cloud of dust and a hearty, ” Hi, Links, AWAY!” ( Who was that masked linking chap?)

I’m not here to tell you what’s best I can only tell you what I do and hope for some good/bad/indifferent comments so that you guys can tell me that:

* I’m an idiot,
* a passable excuse for an SEO bloke or…
* an idiot!

I have no problems sharing my techniques but with luck I’ll feel that yours are far superior and, if so, I’ll change mine!

My first rule is not to endanger my money site by over zealous bookmarking so:

1) The only links to my money sites come from my blog network ( varying the anchor text for those links by creating more than one LinkuBaiter list) AND kosher linking e.g. limited web 2.0 sites and a good Directory Submission Service set up to ‘drip’ a few links in every day.

2) The blogs are all linked to each other via links in the footer. I personally don’t worry too much about how this is done – doesn’t have to be LinkuBaiter code, could just be static links. But the LinkUBaiter script is handy when you are adding new blogs to your network in that you only have to update the footer links once in your LinkUBaiter admin panel to edit all of the blogs.

Or, if you ain’t a LinkUbaiter, just create and keep updated, as you add new blogs to your network, a text file of the links for your blogs to paste into the footers.

3) All my satellite blogs, then, get some serious web 2.0 marketing vibe laid on them from various sites. I guess it’s pretty obvious that I’m a believer in speed and the easy way of doing things ( NOT when it comes to my Money Sites by the way, only on my blog network)!

So what’s YOUR regular bookmarking/seo method of choice?

  • Join a ‘Buzz’ Group and Digg/Stumble/Mixx each others blog posts?
  • Spend some time building Squidoo lenses/Hub pages etc linking to your blogs?
  • Ditto on Article sites?
  • Bookmark using OnlyWire or similar?
  • RSS submission with some sort of RSS feed aggregator?

For me doing all of the above is cool for any site you’re serious about promoting long term but, for a satellite feeder blog ( i.e. ‘feeds’ link juice to your money site) which is set on auto pilot? This computer, it say, “No!

By all means create a Squidoo lens for your keyword phrase and link it to your money site – do that with lots of other sites too, I’m sure you’re all up on web 2.0 marketing, video sites, WP.com, WebPaint etc. etc. because it works, for now! But the fact is it is a bit labour intensive so save that sweat for linkage to your money site(s).

But when it comes to my satellite ( feeder) blogs I like to be a little more adventurous especially as I’ve no Adsense or other monetization on these sites it doesn’t really matter too much if I screw up by being a bit heavy handed on the Bookmarking front, although I try NOT to overdo it! Getting some Google PR on those satellite blogs can make a HUGE difference to the value of the link it gives to my money site.

So I use Socialmarker.com (free) – it takes a while to set up all those user ID’s and Passwords but, once done it’s cool. Personally I choose the ‘DoFollow’ option when selecting the sites I want to Bookmark to which currently equals about 20 sites.

I tend not to bother with ‘News’ sites like Digg, Fark, Newsvine etc. unless it’s a really good and unique post which , being a feeder site, it usually isn’t.

If I do I use Jack Humphrey’s Web2Submitter app. to save time but I don’t think you can purchase that anymore.

My preferred ‘paid’ option, because I’m ‘allergic’ to the monthly fees of web based applications such as SENuke and the like ( no matter how good, effective they may be!), is BookMarking Demon – mainly because my one-time purchase has seen the programmer, Edwin, send me at least a dozen version updates as he keeps one step ahead of the game. Current Beta version, bmd.4, still available at $97 if you’re interested…

This is social ‘tagging’ at the highest level and I really believe it is the best way for getting solid backlinks fast, and without being spammy. Sure you COULD use this tool in a Spam like way, e.g. set up 100’s of bookmarking accounts, but why would you? It’s just crazy to do so and serves no purpose at all.

I am a white hat bookmarker ( maybe a tinge of grey in there…. ) black hats are for short term cowboys, and I see nothing wrong with going for short term profits by the way!

Which are you, white, grey or black? Explain…

  1. I’ve done all the web 2.0 (Howie Schwartz) marketing stuff and it works short term. The only ones that had staying power were Squidoo lenses and a couple of others ( vox.com, revver.com) because I reckon Google’s wise to it now as it was being overused.

  2. On 1) regarding linkubaiter links can you elaborate. Let’s say I have 30 blogs, 10 bluemoney sites and 10 redmoney sites. Then I have 1 linkubaiter called blog sidebar link that has the 20 (10blue – 10red) money sites. How you you suggest adding another linkubaiter (perhaps sidebar 2) with links pointing back to the money sites?

Directory Submission – How many links do you buy to your money site and how do you get the service referenced to drip those links?

I bought loophole early and followed Dave K.s instructions fairly close. I have only seen a couple of money sites indexed in MSN so far. One of them was indexed and now doesn’t seem to be. Another is already referenced as cached in MSN. Would the directory submission help with this part?

  3. Until I start seeing some results via using the Loophole method I don’t see myself qualified to advise on what’s right or wrong – I just do what I feel is best from my previous SEO experience.

So in regards to 1) I’m referring to the anchor text I use to link to my Money Sites e.g. I tend to have 3 different 3 word anchor texts going to each money site – so, 10 sites = 30 links:

    best blue widgets
    cheap blue widgets
    buy blue widgets

…all going to my one Blue Widget site.

No reason not to have 6 sets of anchor text but I want to limit my outgoing links to around 30-50 per blog so might have 2 LinkUBaiter scripts which I switch over, say once a month.

Re Directory submissions – I find that 300 incoming links have got me to page #1 of Google ( Not MSN, but the monster Google!) which costs me around $35.

BUT I make a point of typing in as many different Titles and descriptions in there, usually 5-10 ( I think you’re allowed 15). Not spending the time to do this is a false economy in my opinion, you need to mix it up. I don’t necessarily do them all in one go – maybe 150 one week and 150 the next and set the ’speed of submission’ spread over 2-4 weeks

This alone has got me a #1 position in Google for a site (remembering that the keyword/phrase is in the domain name) out of 24 million pages! Got me a couple of sales too which has more than repaid that investment.

But then I’m not targeting phrases like ‘make money online’ or ‘work from home’ ( as Dave of SE Loophole has mentioned not to do in his recent FAQ videos) but rather at phrases getting between 500-5000 searches in a day.

I too don’t see much happening in MSN search for my sites but if I’m on page #1 of Google I don’t care much :-)

  4. Hi Clive,

I also joined the loophole and have 10 blogs and 8 money sites. Have you seen any results from your efforts yet? So far I’ve got most of my money sites indexed but no rankings in MSN. Just curious as to how others are doing.

I also joined in on the LinkuMate yesterday. So hopefully that jumpstarts things. Did you join LinkuMate? Curious to hear your thoguhts on it.

    -Lisa

  5. Hi Lisa, I got #1 rankings in Google within a couple of weeks and only now, about 2 months later, seeing some indexing and ranking on MSN. Made a couple of sales but nothing major ( and I reckon those were from my Google rankings).

I have just 5 money sites and 5 blogs – didn’t get as many blog/linkubaiter script swaps as I thought I would and am not convinced enough to throw more money at the issue via LinkuMate.

Loophole was one of many projects for me so I’ve kind of let it slide I admit and will have a relook when I have more time.

  6. After a bit of investigating I’d suggest you give LinkUMate a really big miss! Why?

    1) Any monthly subscription that doesn’t offer PayPal as a subscription option is suspect in my opinion ( too easy to cancel right?). So what are they hiding?

    2) You have no control over the blogs, are accepting on faith they are what the guy says they are :-(

    3) You stop paying and your so called links are dead.

    4) My gut feeling….

You do what you think is right and cool for you of course. But there is no way that I would rely on my backlinks coming from sites/blogs over which I had no control.

My opinion? Get out, run for the hills, and do some good web 2.0 marketing on your money sites!

  7. Thanks for the input. I really appreciate it. I’ll watch the LinkuMate thing for a month and if I can’t see any noticeable activity I’ll quit.

I’ll also try the directory submission and see if that works.

What kind of web 2.0 marketing do you do for your money sites?

I have submitted my rss feeds for my blogs to a couple of places but haven’t really done anything with my money sites yet.

  8. I agree with Clive on Linkumate. I have no idea but it seems like a way to monetize a bunch of older blogs and perhaps they are always building newer blogs for their juice network of their own. Who knows,

Clive, can you detail how you got to number 1 in Google in a couple of weeks? Were these existing domains? Did you do more than linkubaiter?

    I just checked most of 10 money sites done pretty much to loophole instructions. I could not find any in top 50 in google. I found 8 in MSN – 2 @ #1, 1 @ #4, 1 @#5, 1 @ #6 and the others in top 60.

What do you recommend as the next thing to do to get them all on page 1 in MSN and to move up in google? I echo Lisa’s question, what do you do in Web 2.0 marketing – just the software you mention above?

I have made a couple of sales and hopefully that will increase.

Interestingly, on my #4 domain I found a loopholer @ #2 with my exact same domain name except as a .org, mine is a .com.

Lastly, take a look at this http://www.freetrafficsystem.com/a.php?p=211 I might try some articles on this free site to see if that helps my rankings.

  9. Hmmm, that Free Traffic System link you sent looks interesting Jerry. I’d never use it for a real blog like this but for link juice satellite blogs why not?

It’s similar to Syndicate Kahuna I think but will explore further – keep me informed on how you get on with it.

Re my #1 in Google etc.I can honestly say it has to be down to the fact that I got some Directory Backlinks and a quick Bookmarking blitz via Bookmarking Demon ‘cos I did nothing else.

I only use serious web 2.0 marketing for my long term big money sites. Happy to discuss that at some time in the future.

I will however blow my own trumpet and say that my on page SEO is even better than the Loophole guys! I go the extra yard, no 2 ways about it ( for example: naming my .jpg image files with my keyword phrase!)

Jerry/Lisa: Email me ‘in site’ here and I’ll share one of my #1 pages so you can analyze it, reverse engineer it and maybe get some ideas from it.

The page isn’t converting into sales particularly well but that’s got more to do with my poor choice of keywords possibly – but the rankings and competition don’t lie for getting to page #1 ( Yahoo too, just checked).

  10. Lisa, you have to register on the blog ( Home page, bottom left) ( then login with those details to use the internal email system). I only share cool stuff with Blogwam members.

  11. Cool. Thanks. I’ll try it now.

  12. Hi Everyone,

How is the MSN linkubaiter linking working for others? I was just getting traffic and had some number one ratings and now things have slowed down. I understand that those ratings tend to come back. Anyone know more about this and how much time it might take?

  13. I joined Linkumate when it first came out about 6 weeks ago and I’ve so far seen no extra links at all. Not a one! TBH I was a bit dubious with all the bad press that the MSN ranking product has got in all the forums, but I thought i’d give it a try.

Anyway, my advice is save your money, have a look in http://www.warriorforum.com and outsource some social bookmarking. I’ve just purchased a service from a Warrior – 150 links for $20 and I’m seeing results already.

    Linkumate Cancelled!

  14. The new http://www.3waylinkblueprint.com/ site which I got membership of as a bonus with the Niche Blueprint program (I don’t think it’s open to the public as yet) has just helped me get one of my clients to page #1 of Google for 4 separate keyword phrases. They think I’m an SEO God!!!

Have also used and benefited from Jonathan Leger’s 3wayLinks membership (which I’m sure was the inspiration for the Blueprint site I mentioned) and his newer 1wayLinks program.

  15. Clive, that’s excellent news. I’m a member of Commission Blueprint’s Membership site and they’ve just released the 3waylinks in this months content. I’ll be checking that out, thanks for the info :)

How are you getting on with the MSN loophole. I tried it on a couple of money sites after having bought the upsell etc etc and I just didn’t see any real results after 4-5 weeks so I just lost confidence and give it up as a bad job.

  16. Ian,

Where on Warrior Forum is the link for $150 backlinks for $20.

I think I can say I have broke even on Loophole and I have done nothing more than indicated in the instructions. I see MSN has a new beta search engine though so loophole could die with that. Hope to make some profits before then ;-)

Clive, did you get your client to number 1 with 3waylinkblueprint or did you buy other links or directory submissions?

Anyone have any thoughts on the promos of all the new ppc products coming to market?

BTW – here is a site I found http://jointventures.jvnotifypro.com/ if it someone finds a good use with it, could they please share with me. Thanks

  17. Jerry,

You can get 150 social bookmarks here for $25 http://www.lexorsoft.com/2008/01/09/150-manual-social-bookmarking-services/

The guy who runs the website is a Warrior.

I tried them out last week and it’s a great service, I’m going to be using them again tomorrow for a few more sites.

Within 24 hours they’ll email you a report of all the bookmarks that they have submitted.

I normally use http://www.onlywire.com to do my bookmarking, which is a very good service but I don’t get anywhere near 150 :)

  18. Re that client’s site. I optimized the home page for 2 phrases ( “garden designers bath”, “garden designers bristol”) around February 20th, purchased 200 directory links, spread over 3 weeks from Directory Maximizer and added 3waylinkblueprint about 10 days ago.

In Google.co.uk their site hegartywebberpartnership.com is floating between #4 and #12 for both phrases out of between 400k and 2 million results having previously ranked nowhere.

My view is it all starts with good page optimization and slow and steady backlinks.

  19. i stay away from anything grey – black PERIOD.

  20. Hi Sandy,

Tip for future web SEO e.g. commenting on a SEO post to link to your Google profile you need to get that dyslexic WebDesgin typo fixed otherwise the back link kind of loses some of its juice :-)

More than happy for the comment it’s just that I notice it in the other comment you made separately too. I often do it myself so I smypathise!
