What would I do with YOUR blog?
OK we’ve decided to do the deed! I’m going to grant you full Admin privileges to the WP blog on my hosting account ( while retaining the master admin rights myself in case we fall out!) and you are going to do the same for me for a blog sitting on your server.
First thing I’d do is make sure plugins were working OK, the ones stated on the blog swap request, and you had included a reasonable theme or two – I don’t know if Search Engines rank down blogs with the default WP theme but it sounds like the sort of think the clever buggers might do doesn’t it?

In fact it is the quality of the plugins that you have pre-installed ( and anything else you’ve done to add value to your blog) that will make your new blog swapper feel like he/she’s ‘home from home”.
It’s unrealistic to expect a fellow swapper with a load of useful plugins, many of which he’s paid for, to do a swap when you’ve only got a few freebies in there. I suspect that the most prolific blog swappers will be those that have installed the same ‘quality’ automated plugins as their partners.
Remember that you are not giving your blog partner FTP permissions to upload new plugins to your blog – they’ll have to work with what you’ve given them, no more no less.
Don’t stint on plugins if you want to get blog swapping partners is the lesson.

A neat plugin, recently suggested by a Blogwam member, that helps swappers get exactly what they want in their blogs, in that it allows your blogswap partner to upload plugins and themes via the WP dashboard of the blog you’ve loaned them:
